Defib for Oborne

We work at The Grange at Oborne, a gorgeous hotel in the lovely little Dorset village of Oborne.  Oborne only has around 100 residents, plus whoever is staying at the hotel!

We recently had some first aid training and the trainer explained how much difference the use of a defibrillator makes to someone's chances of surviving a heart attack.  Although we live close to a nearby town, paramedics can sometimes take a long time to reach us, so we decided to do something about it.  

We want to have two defibrillators in our village.  One at the hotel where we work and another at the village hall, a gift from the hotel to the village.  We have had a very busy summer, but despite this, we hope to hold a series of fundraisers to pay for them, so far we have:

Walked for it.  We choose to virtually walk the South West Coast Path; 532,025 steps.  As you might imagine, people who work in hotels clock up a lot of mileage;  waitresses walking back and forth to the kitchen, housekeepers walking the corridors, and so on.  So, unfortunately, with just half of the staff using pedometers, we completed this in just one week!  

Next, we had the brilliant series of Summer Garden Concerts and Jon Valender had the idea of asking for donations.  This raised over £300.

The fundraising target of £4,000, includes a heated cabinet for the AED kept at the village hall, replacement batteries in five years' time, paediatric pads, electrical installation and first aid training for up to twenty villagers.

It has been decided that we will try to raise an additional £750, to ensure that the village AED and any maintenance is paid for throughout its life.
