Hearing Aids for Susan Slosberg

For almost two decades, our mom has lived with significant hearing loss. She has roughly 40% hearing in one ear and 60% in the other. Will you make a donation today to help us get her the hearing aids she urgently needs?

Mom has handled it the best she can – she’s got a killer sense of humor and jokes about it all the time – but we know it’s taken a toll on her. She’s charming and funny and outgoing, but the hearing loss has made every part of her life harder.

As mom’s getting older, the hearing loss is getting worse. The hearing aids will give our mom back up to 50% of her lost hearing. When she was able to test out a set recently, she was able to hear sounds that we take for granted like the fizzing of soda, and coworkers talking on the other side of the cubicle. We’ve tried everything to get her the hearing aids she needs – the insurance company, AARP, hearing loss foundations etc. – no one will help us.

Our mom is so kind and generous – she always wants to help everyone around her. She goes out of her way for everyone, friends and strangers alike. Mom is also going to start a new job soon and having a set of hearing aids will help her put her best foot forward and a fresh start as she pursues the next step of her career. Can you help us return that kindness and generosity by providing mom with an exceptional opportunity at a new beginning?

Those who know Sue know that she looks at the world with a different perspective.  Part of that is that she’s been able to survive and, yes, thrive, living with health issues for many years (we won’t say how many, but it’s a long time).  She also has lived with a severe hearing loss – as she puts it, she hears Ticket Master as Chicken Master.  She has to work twice as hard as anyone else just to make sure she knows what is going on.  Still she’s managed.

As she’s getting older, the hearing loss is getting more profound and it makes daily life more difficult.  Since she has insurance, she went for hearing tests.  She has been advised that she might look into cochlear implants (costing roughly $100,000!).  She recently tried a set of hearing aids for a week and it made a tremendous difference in her life and in her confidence.

But, sadly, no hearing aid providers would work with the insurance company.  They all said that the insurance company wouldn’t pay out what they should, delayed making payments, etc.  I know it’s surprising that insurance doesn’t care about the policyholder but its crushing when it’s you.

Please help us raise money so Sue can get the hearing aids she so desperately needs.
