I moved to Cottonwood, AZ in 2005 to work on my walking. I'd been using a wheelchair for 18 years and although docs said I'd never walk, I'd been able to do so on muscle spasms for years, then slowly this became more functional, and therapies here continued to improve my gait (stride), active muscle control and sensation.

I was making progress and feeling great until I started having very painful, fever-inducing abdominal abscesses, which required ER surgeries, could have been fatal, and took me down for about 11 months, most of which I had to spend in bed for post-surgery wound care. These were not a stranger to me, I had dealt with two others in previous years. They are strange though, unexplained, not disability-related, and otherwise I am seemingly so healthy.

When I came out of that massive episode, I opened a Bed & Breakfast. I needed something grounding, where my health could stabilize and the world could come to me, so that I might be of service. Accommodating and cooking seemed like a perfect solution.

The B&B opened with the assistance of many generous people and then flourished under hard work, seven days a week, as my health was slowly improving. After a few years though, I could feel this was taking a toll. I started the process of planning for an addition to house on-site management to partially relieve me.

On March 13, 2011 I was back in ER for my 6th abscess surgery. Here I am now, spending at least two months in bed for recovery (I do get a little voyage out every few days for sanity). This is what I was trying to prepare for, but couldn't do fast enough. I am reaching out to ask you to help me with the final funds, so this structure can be built and we can bring in the help I need.

The funds from this site are going to: 1) the medical aspects of this project: the elevator, wheelchair accessible paths on the property, wheelchair height garden boxes, accessible utility boxes, and a small therapy area in my apartment "“ this is all to protect and maintain my health; and 2) to the fallout of this recovery: the newly needed B&B help, the extra wound care staff (only once a day is covered by insurance, and I require two visits a day), and the supplies needed at the house now for me to function and be cared for.

I believe in strength in numbers. I also know many of us are in need and stretched thin these days. A donation of even $10 is greatly appreciated and if you can afford more and are compelled, your gift is greatly appreciated as well. :-) Passing along this site with your own personal message is what will keep its momentum.

May 15th is just around the corner, and I know this is a huge goal, but I am praying that with your help I will raise these funds in that time. This will keep the project on schedule to have management here for the Autumn Peak Season, when it will be needed more than ever.

I know you can help me get back on my feet. I am excited to be well again. I've been continuing to do as much of my regular volunteer work that I love as possible, from bed. I'm still writing PR for this Old Town Cottonwood area, to help promote events and draw business to all of the exceptional and varied merchants. And as an Historic Preservation Commissioner, I've been doing my part to help protect the incredible history we have here. Still, I can't wait to get back to those meetings in person, attend those events healthy and out of pain, and be able to accommodate folks here at The Inn, to help take care of them, in their times of compromised health and need.

Thank you again for taking action now,

With most sincerity,
