Healthy Niños

So many people have expressed interest in donating in some way to our kids in Medellín, and aside from the amazing work the Emiliani Project (link below) is doing there, we have taken on a side project for our July 28 trip,  that I think will be exciting for y'all and a great way to be a part of the trips even if you cannot come physically.

God has an awesome way of lining things up... Last weekend while in FL at a dermatology convention, I met a physician that is relocating to Houston, but is originally from Medellín!  I told him all about Emiliani and expressed to him that I was hoping to find some local practioners that might be able to take care of some of the needs of the kids.  Most of them have had no access to basic health care beyond what is provided by the government (nominal).  The director of the hogar expressed her hope to get a full physical done for each of the kids.  She also said that they are in need of a nutritionist for some of the babies that have come to them malnourished.  I asked Dr Patino if he knew of anyone that might be interested in helping out.  He jumped on it  (I cannot say enough nice things about this man) and found some colleagues that are ready to help.  One of his colleagues, Dr Yan Rodriguez, who is a respected pediatra in Medellín, has offered to go to the hogar with a partner and give full physicals to each of the 140 children for only $14 per child.  He will be travelling to the hogar for 6 or 7 days to make sure that he can see everyone.    He has also offered to give two lectures to the kids regarding nutrition and general health.

Once we have this done, we want to be able to address at least as many acute needs that they find with local dermatologists, ophthalmologists, perscriptions etc etc.

We are ALSO be blessed by  a local woman, Sonia Watt, who owns "Nit Not" here in College Station.  She is going to be joining us on this trip and treating the children with a non-toxic lice system that she uses and then instructing them on how to prevent and treat any future issues.  We will be purchasing several combs and oils to treat the kids and then leave with the staff at the hogar for future use.

HERE is where you come in, should you so choose!  Please consider donating towards our mission to provide basic health care to these sweet children.   Unfortunately health care, even basic, is a luxury that they simply cannot afford.

I just used $5000. as a goal because in all honesty, Im not sure what the costs will be beyond the initial physicals ($1960.)  We know there will be further labs, specialists, medications, correctives etc after the exams, but even with the discounted rates and donated services we have been searching for, these things add up quickly.  We will also be purchasing the lice treatment products to ship before travel which will be around $500.  Every penny raised from this campaign will be spent specifically on the health care of the children living at Gente Unida.
Please know that  ANYTHING donated is  wonderful and will be carefully managed and appreciated.

Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!
