Help Kanchha Keep Helambu Healthy

Tax deductible

When this picture was taken at Kanchha Sherpa’s graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at Manchester University, it was the
fulfilment of a dream not only for Kanchha and Purna Gautam,
the headteacher of his village school, (pictured here)  but for his whole village.
Kanchha comes from the Helambu region of Nepal in the
foothills of the Himalayas and, from his boyhood, he had
dreamed of training as a doctor to serve the people of this
remote area where there was almost no medical help available.
With the support of the Nepalese Children’s Trust and many
generous donors, Kanchha was able to complete his training and at the beginning of 2020 he returned to his home village to start running the health post there, determined to make a difference
to the well-being of the region.
Not long after his arrival, the Covid pandemic broke out and the
first priority was to provide education to help prevent its spread. Kanchha travelled - largely on foot - to every village in Helambu
(a region about the size of Greater Manchester) not only to
advise about anti-Covid measures but to assess the needs of the villagers and, where possible, to treat the illnesses common in
this part of the world: respiratory diseases, heart problems,
diarrhoea amongst others.
So far, Kanchha has worked without pay and with the minimal
resources provided by the Nepalese government.  He has
reported the distress he feels at not being able to help sick
people because of the lack of medicines and basic equipment. He has the dilemma which no doctor ever wants to face of having
the skill and knowledge to treat patients but not being able to
provide the medicines they need because of lack of money.
Just £4000 can provide basic health care and medicine for one
year for the 20,000 people in this region. Please help us to raise
this sum by donating what you can to this appeal.

Many thanks.
