Help Heal and Inspire My Mother

Donation protected
Barbara Parris-Amore has been the pillar of strength that has empowered not only her daughters but so many others around her throughout the years. Even as she suffered through constant illnesses, frequent hospitalizations, multiple Strokes, a mild heart attack, and ongoing debilitating chemical imbalances and autoimmune disease that have tried to break her body down. Throughout it all she has been a rock that pushed my sister and I through our scholarly journey before being able to embark on her own dream of achieving her Bachelor degree at age 53. And despite being unable to continue actual employment due to the severity of her ailments, developed in the backroom of her home a nonprofit designed to aid underprivileged communities in Jamaica, Haiti, and the United States with resources and items of needs.

The Gift Basket Foundation has been a lifeline for families and orphans who otherwise had no other means of receiving the assistance my mother recognized was lacking. It even compelled a woman more used to the colors on the walls of a hospital room to take on once again the walls of a classroom to further pursue her Master in Marriage and Family Therapy to be more able to help the community.

Yet through all that she has been unable to seek consistent medical help, only able to go to her primary care doctor in matters of emergency or when enough money is saved due to lack of insurance. Feelings of hopelessness threatened as she was informed that she qualified and is eligible for government funded insurance but in a state that is 50th funded and rejected federal expansion there's no funds available for her at this time. Clinics can't help because her illnesses are too severe but there's little hope of getting to the specialist. Turned down for disability benefits 3 times now and so just surviving and pushing her nonprofit on a wing and a prayer, lots of prayers.

So with all pride aside and her health at the forefront I ask for help. Help to keep my mother healthy because if she has been able to do so much all these years through sickness and stress, I'm ready to see her and The Gift Basket really get kicking.
