Healing Derek's Heart

In October of 2017 Lauren was diagnosed with preeclampsia while pregnant with her second child, Derek. Lauren was in and out of the hospital several times and she was going to doctor appointments several days per week at the beginning of her third trimester, due to health issues from pregnancy complications. At only 30 weeks pregnant, Lauren went to labor and delivery because she was experiencing more severe preeclampsia symptoms. She had to have an emergency c- section because her blood pressure had reached a dangerously high level, and she and the baby were in danger. Derek was born nearly 10 weeks early and spent 39 days in the Chester County Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). After being released from CCH NICU, Derek was admitted to A.I. DuPont Hospital’s NICU and PICU twice because he had stopped breathing. Derek has had to make several trips to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and has went through several rounds of testing due to an opened patent ductus arteriosis valve in his heart, which has been problematic since birth. On March 6th, 2018 it was determined that Derek will need to have a heart surgery in the coming days to close the opened valve in his heart.

The bills are already coming in by the thousands, and the family is no longer able to keep up with the medical bills, let alone the cost of having two small children.
