Healing for Shabbona
My name is Nicholas Azar and I work for an agriculture company in Jizzakh, Uzbekistan. My boss Dan Patterson was invited in October of 2020 to visit a local orphanage. During his visit he met a 13 year old girl named Shabbona. Shabbona is a sweet quiet girl with a smile always on her face. Shabbona was given to the orphanage by her parents when she was 2, when they first noticed her deformity.
After consulting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Dan was informed that Shabbona's tumor is benign but growing at a rate that could reach her brain in a matter of years and likely cause a stroke. Dan promised Shabbona that he would save her life. Currently, there is no open clinical trial at St. Jude for her type of tumor, so Le Bonheur Children's Hospital agreed to treat Shabbona in August of 2021. After a 30% discount from our friends at Le Bonheur and Semmes Murphey Clinic, the cost for her treatment is $86,708. GoFundMe's transaction fee is 2.9% so we rounded the goal up to $89,500. Dan will pay for the transportation and lodging of Shabbona and her orphanage chaperon.
- International Airfare: The Uzbek government is paying for the international airfare of both Shabbona and her orphanage chaperon.
- Domestic Airfare and Lodging: Dan is paying for the domestic airfare and lodging of both Shabbona and her chaperon.
- Medical Treatment: The money raised through this GoFundMe will be withdrawn by Dan and paid directly to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and Semmes Murphey Clinic. In the case that the money raised exceeds the goal, the excess money will be donated directly to My Happy Home, Shabbona's orphanage.
