Healing for Lyra

At 6 years old, Lyra started losing hearing in her left ear.  After meeting with several specialists, it was determined she should have an MRI.  On Thursday, June 18, 2020, she had her MRI.  Then the call came....she had a mass on her brain.  It was a sizable mass pressing against her optic nerve, her auditory nerve, and her spinal column.  Surgery was immediately scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2020.  Lyra's surgery took over 6 hours.  The neurosurgeon was able to get a significant portion; however, parts of the tumor were too close to vital nerves to be safely removed.  We are still awaiting the pathology report.  We don't know what type of tumor Lyra is dealing with, so we don't know yet what other treatments might be needed such as radiation or chemotherapy.  Lyra will need physical and speech therapy.

Lyra is the youngest of 4 and the only girl.  Her father and mother are Alan and Gail Mais.  Her brothers are Riston, Zander, and Connor.

Lyra enjoys being outside playing with her pit bull, Pearl, her cats, roughhousing with her brothers, "catching" toads, drawing, singing, exploring, picking flowers, and snuggling with her family members while watching tv or movies.

While we simply asked for prayers as we have been blessed with miracles of prayers, if you wish to make a personal gift or donation to Lyra and her family, you may do so here.  The funds would be helpful for transportation, hotel, and other associated costs as Lyra receives her continued treatment and therapy.

I will also say the following...

Lyra is an absolute blessing to our family.  She has a gentle, caring, and generous heart.  She has melted all her brother's hearts (as well as mine) and keeps them on their toes.  Not only is she going through scary times, her grandmother has been given less than six months to live.  It is hard for Lyra not to see her grandmother and love on her.
