Headphones for Children in Family Shelters

My family has been working with a few local non-profit organizations to help them during these challenging times. These organizations support many individuals and families and we got a long list of essential items from them. This inspired us to organize a community-wide drive-thru donation drive to get supplies (grocery items, children's books, bedding, hygiene supplies) and we were able to collect more than 200 bags from our kind community. Apart from the essential items, we got another common request and this prompted me to start this campaign. Please see the notes below to learn more about these organizations.
This GoFundMe fundraising campaign is solely intended to help children living in family shelters. Due to shelter in place restrictions, most classes have moved to online platforms. One common request we repeatedly heard from all the family shelters was about getting basic headphones for children so they can use them for educational workshops or recreational activities. Families with children live in shared spaces and headphones would give them some form of privacy and comfort when they attend online learning platforms.
1. Sunday Friends provides programs that fosters positive development in children while educating and guiding parents to support their children. The families they serve are exceptionally motivated to improve their lives. Their programs involve children and parents working together, which gives whole families the chance to practice skills and grow together. They serve more than 120 families.They would love to get 80 -100 headsets to support the families.
2. CityTeam San Jose offers a variety of resources to meet needs of many families and to provide real help and hope. Their programs are geared towards helping individuals and families improve their lives mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. CityTeam has requested at least 100 headsets.
3. LiveMoves assists 23 shelters from Daly City to San Jose by providing temporary housing to families experiencing homelessness. They serve approx. 1,000 individuals a night and approx. a third of those are children. LifeMoves provides a year-round educational program to engage children in arts, science and math activities. Children receive tutoring and participate in educational workshops. They have a 7-week summer program and would love to get at least 50 headphones for their summer programs and academic year starting in fall.
4. West Valley Community Services (WVCS) which serves 7 cities is requesting for 100 headphones. WVCS agency serves different school districts and when they reached out to different teachers in preparation for their Back-To-School event, they have all asked for a basic headphone with a microphone for children so they can be more engaged during online classes. There are approx.100 children supported by WVCS.
5. SJ family supportive housing provides temporary housing to 35 families and made a request for 30 headphones.
6. My New Red Shoes (MNRS) started their work in 2006 by providing children with a sense of normalcy, belonging and a boost of confidence by giving them new and properly fitting shoes and clothing for school. They have many programs to help youth and families. They are working with San Francisco YMCA, one of their partners as they continue to provide childcare and services to families in need. The youth they are working with are trying to learn in large, loud spaces that can be very distracting. They have requested 700 headphones
Sadly, there are many more family shelters with children needing basic headphones and we will be reaching out to them soon. We have also reached out to a few headphone companies to see if they can donate some to these shelters.
So far, using the funds I have raised from this fundraiser and the support from a few headphone companies, I was able to procure 400 headsets to help children. I am now requesting funds to help SF YMCA with 700 headsets so the children can actively participate in online learning. Please lend your support to this cause. Thank you!
