He Survived the Fall — Now Let’s Lift Him Up

This is Robert Cody — or as I call him, Dad. Others know him as Papa, but most folks just call him Cody. If you know him, you know he’s a man of integrity, grit, and quiet strength. Nearly 70 years old, he’s still outworked people half his age without ever complaining — until just a few days ago, when everything changed.

Cody and his wife, Mary Jane, live in a raised beach-style home in Anahuac, Texas. Like many houses in flood-prone areas, theirs sits about 15 feet off the ground on pylons. Getting up and down those stairs every day wasn’t easy, so with the help of friends from their church and community, a homemade lift was built to help them safely access their home.

At first, it felt like a godsend. But on Cody’s very first ride, tragedy struck. The hook holding the lift’s carriage snapped, and with him inside, it plummeted to the ground.

By nothing short of a miracle, Cody survived — but with serious injuries. His right femur was broken, and his left heel was crushed. He faces months of healing, surgeries, and physical therapy. And the bitter irony? The very lift that nearly took his life is now the only realistic way he’ll ever get back into his home once he’s discharged.

Now, the Codys need our help. They need a professionally built, code-compliant lift to safely access their home — not just for today, but for the years ahead. Insurance won’t cover it. Time is short. And every bit helps.
