Zach's Mitzvah Project
Donation protected
My name is Zach Gitlin, and this year, I am becoming a bar-mitzvah.
In my synagogue, it is tradition to do a mitzvah project to help others in an area that feels important to you.
For my mitzvah project, I decided to help an organization called “Little Kids Rock’, by raising enough money to contribute two new electric keyboards. The organization helps support New York City schools in starting music programs, and training teachers to run them.
The reason I decided to help this particular organization is for two reasons. The first is because of what music means to me. In my elementary school, I had a music teacher that changed my entire perspective on music. I felt so much closer to music after my years with her. She introduced me to so much, and I am forever grateful. The second reason that I chose this organization is because both my mom and uncle work for the NYC public schools. Little Kids Rock donated several guitars to their school, and my uncle was able to run the program. Many students there began to really love music, just like me.
If I could be able to do something like this for others, it would mean a lot, as would your support.
I would also like to invite everyone to a small music recital on January 11th, 2015, at 12pm at the Reconstructionist Synagogue. A few friends and I will perform in honor of showing how much music means to us! With the money I raise, I will be able to pick a school of my choice to donate the keyboards to. Thank you for your support!!
