Emily's Breast Cancer Journey
Never can one comprehend the blow to your life when the words, Breast Cancer, are confirmed by your doctor. This nightmare came true for Matt’s sister, my beautiful sister in-law, Emily Hopkins. At 41, our sister is facing the fight of her life. I can’t begin to put into words the strength she has demonstrated through this entire process. During a time when you desperately need to lean on those you love, covid has made a scary time more frightening. You face all appointments and treatments alone. We are so deeply grateful for the nurses and doctors who have provided Emily with incredible care.
As a single mother to her two beautiful daughters, Jemma and Dani, Emily hasn’t bat an eye at stepping up to this battle. Anyone who knows Emily, knows her daughters are her WORLD!!! As soon as Emily found out about having breast cancer, even before it was confirmed, she never once mentioned how hard this was going to be on her! Her only focus was and is, what is best for the girls and how she could best prepare and support them. As a single mother, the reality of fighting for your life holds an entire new level of fear. Again, Emily has faced this reality fiercely and refuses to allow the fears to engulf her. Her strength, bravery, vulnerability, faith and fight have been unwavering.
Emily recently shared her diagnosis publicly. She made the choice to begin this journey privately, another testament to her strength! While walking this journey she found herself wanting to share her story in hopes to bring strength, comfort, inspiration and love to others.
As you can only imagine, being a single mother facing close to a year of chemotherapy treatments, radiation treatments, as well as surgery, the financial stress is at a crippling level. The last thing we want to see Emily worry about are her bills. Our family reaches out to you during this incredibly difficult time for your support. We wish we could be out in the community fundraising, but unfortunately we are unable to do so because of covid.
