Hope for Honduras

This has been a dream since I was 12 years old. I remember lying in bed one night, praying, when I heard God whisper into my thoughts, “Mikah June Phillips, follow Me.” That was it. No specifics, no destination, no details, just a “simple” matter of trust and follow. Ever since that night, He has been training me through things like: a mission trip to Nicaragua, summers out at Camp of the Hills, fostering a little boy, and tuning my heart to His. He has been growing me up in His perfect timing for this moment. He is calling me out upon the waters, where I could never stand unless He holds me up.
On January 15, I will be moving to Gracias, Honduras to live with a wonderful, God-given missionary family named the Slykers. Ever since I found out about this opportunity, my family, the Slykers, and I have been praying fervently that God’s will would be revealed. By opening several doors and even sending me a prophetic dream, the Lord made it obvious that this was the next step in my growing up. Since the confirmation of this move, everything has had the Lord’s hand on it: from booking a plane ticket, to my room in Honduras, to the missionaries who already live there. While it’s been terrifying, there has been a measure of excitement. I have an amazing opportunity to leave my zone of safety here and trust that the Lord will go before me.
Opportunites to serve while I'm there will include: helping at a local hunger farm that helps feed the surrounding villages, helping in a children's home for 2 year olds and under, participating in the children's and family ministries in the many mountain villages, and ministering to the kids at the bilingual school there.
God has also opened the eyes of my heart to the need for community. If you are being led by the hand of God to support me and my calling to Gracias, Honduras, then I would be thrilled to partner with you to minister to children of God that are 1800 miles away! My goal is to raise $4800, hopefully before I leave on January 15.
The funds will include:
· $400 a month for room and board and breakfast and supper
· $30 a month for (international) cell phone coverage
· $180 a month for lunch (I will have to eat out for lunch)
· $120 a month for miscellaneous needs and spending while there
This all totals up to $730 a month. Currently, my plan is to stay for five months, although I’m holding the reins very loosely and will wait on God’s confirmation for my plans.
· $500 for pre-trip prep (i.e. clothes since a lot of clothes that are acceptable here are not in Honduras, bilingual books/equipment, misc. items for travel/every-day life there)
and lastly, $600-$700 for the flight back home.
Above all, I will need spiritual support and a circle of prayer warriors here in the states. The enemy does not like it when believers follow the path God has set for them, so I recognize that having brothers and sisters in Christ who are willing to battle with me is a huge blessing and very important.
