My name is Penny Pritchard. I am the Grandmother of Hayden. He is 14 years old and just diagnosed with DKA. Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Hayden has been admitted to the Pediatric ICU. His sugar level was 469 when he was admitted. Hayden tested positive for Covid a couple weeks ago and today was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The doctors say it’s common for young people to get diabetes from having Covid. Hayden dropped almost 30 lbs since this began.

My son Scott and daughter-in-law Danielle are having to take time away from work and are trying to figure out a plan. This will be life changing for Hayden and his parents as they guide him down this new path. He is the sweetest boy. He cares about everyone and would do anything for anyone.
