Harvey Relief for Beaumont TX

Donation protected
After posting about my extended family whose homes in Beaumont, TX were flooded after Hurricane Harvey, several friends have reached out asking to donate directly to our family. Thank you so much for your concern and generosity. We truly have an amazing network of friends and family here in Houston and around the globe.

It is hard to know the extent of the damage or what will be required to clean or rebuild because many homes (including the entire Bevil Oaks neghborhood where my Great Aunts' homes are located) are still underwater and are predicted to remain that way for a week or more.  It's hard to wrap your head around and, clearly, every little bit helps.  Any funds raised here will go directly to the members of my family who are dealing with Harvey flooding so they can buy whatever they need to move forward: clean-up supplies, clothes, furniture, toiletries, bedding....you name it.

For those of you interested in getting your hands dirty, please reach out to me (Liz Hanks) and I can put you in touch with a family member who is organizing the clean-up. Thanks so much.

My previous post:
Please think of Beaumont in your Harvey donating efforts, which is a city east of Houston on the Louisiana border. Many of my dad's family live there and have 7-8 feet of water in their homes. This is a picture of just what you can see of the roof of my aunt and uncle's house.   To add insult to injury, the city's water supply is now compromised and water has to be flown in by helicopter because roads are still flooded.

As a child, we spent nearly every Thanksgiving in their homes celebrating and eating way too much with our huge extended family. We even vote on and give out The Pig Award every year   to the person who eats the most. It's an actual statue with names engraved for each year.   One of my most vivid young memories is laying on the couch watching TV late into the night while my Great Uncle headed outside every hour to tend to the turkey in the smoker. We love you Aunt Jane and Aunt Joan and Uncle Rusty and are glad you are safe.
