It’s a new school year!

Everyone is embarking on new adventures, and we are excited!

Vegas will be attending Mt. Hood Community College, as well as continuing in orchestra and jazz band at the local high school. He is also entering his second year in PYP, which he is looking forward to very much.
Elvis will be playing in advanced band at our local middle school, as well as playing in a youth band or orchestra, {TBA, we are still waiting on audition results!}
Axel just completed his first audition ever, and regardless of the results, we are so proud of him for working hard, and actually going through with it! He will also be participating in a youth orchestra, depending on the audition results.
America has just started cello lessons with a new teacher, who she loves.

As a group, the three younger kids studying at home will be focusing on ancient history, archeology, science, foundational math, literature, language arts, art, and music.

I am thrilled about the language arts curriculum that I am using this year, after years of searching for something that has high academic standards, as well as being aimed at younger ages. So many elementary language arts programs are either too out of context due to age, or extremely dumbed down. A good friend suggested these new books, and I was instantly sold. She told me they were well written, and beautiful to look at. After I ordered a few books, I had to agree- they are fantastic.

Each kid will be taking music lessons, and we will be planning many field trips to support our history and science lessons. I am looking forward to {and also terrified of} Vegas driving more, so that we have a little more flexibility in our scheduling.

Since we have been able to build up a good collection of curriculum each year, and we are able to use the books for each subsequent child, we are down to just a few new books to buy for this school year. The majority of our costs are music lessons and raw materials.

Each donation to our school efforts is supremely appreciated, and I cannot thank each of you enough  for all your support.

With everyone so busy and focused on their studies, {including my husband!} It is a great relief to know that we are able to work from home and learn in freedom. Thank you!!

Waiting expectantly for a fantastic school year,
Shelley
