Meet the Harjo's. To me, Ben and Denise are the kind of friends that everyone needs to have - kind, fun, supportive, and would do anything for you. Now it is time for others to be there for them.
Ben, Denise, and their 3 boys moved to Texas just over 2 years ago. Things were tough as their family adjusted to a new state, away from the majority of their friends and family. About a year ago, things got even tougher when Ben lost the job he had moved to Texas for and he also began to have health issues. Denise returned to work as a nurse to help them avoid losing the home they had just bought, while Ben fought to get healthy enough to undergo a transplant in the future. Things started to look up when Ben found another job but, unfortunately, got laid off again in November.
On January 6th, things took a scary turn when Ben was rushed to the hospital. He was unable to walk due to pain and infection in his leg, that we have since learned was septic. His liver had also severely declined and his kidneys were not functioning either. In the days since, he taken small steps forward, followed by major steps back. Today, he is back in ICU, with the infection again causing sepsis, kidneys not functioning, and liver in a poor state.
I want, more than anything, to help this family. Denise has so much on her shoulders right now --- she is the only source of income for her family right now, as well as needing to be there for a very sick Ben, as well as her three sons. Although getting Ben healthy is in the hands of God and the medical professionals, we, as her friends and family, can help by easing some of the financial burden that is stressing her out right now.
