Disabled Senior NEEDS Surgery To Get His Life Back

Donation protected
Imagine if you will, no this isn't a Twilight Zone episode, being struck down by a massive stroke and struggling to regain a semblance of your life back; enough so you could pretty much take care of yourself, which you always did before,  and then being hit with another life changing injury that progressively took away that ability and needing surgery from a specialist that Humana won't pay for and not having the funds to cover. That basically is his situation. He has a hard time asking for help but needs it desperately. So please donate whatever you can, even 5 or 10 dollars will help, to assist him to get this needed surgery and please share with others, thank you. There are more details below if you wish to know more.  Again, if he could handle this himself he would but it is beyond him.

My brother, David Jay Roberts, has worked hard all his life mostly in construction but in other fields when construction was slow and is now living on Social Security. Even after a stroke in 6/06 that left him partially paralyzed on his left side he continued to work, first doing foreclosure inspections then in property management until this new problem cut short his career. Now he can't work at all and is running out of money.

He's suffered many serious injuries in his life including almost losing his left foot in 1998 and having his neck broken in 2008. Then after a fall in 6/15 he began to experience deterioration of his motor skills on his right side. After being misdiagnosed time and time again and having numerous useless surgeries, he finally self diagnosed himself with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) and had it essentially confirmed by Dr. Tollustrup, a specialist in this area. Here's a link to his website   https://nevadanervesurgery.org/conditions-we-treat/thoracic-outlet-syndrome/.   Also the same muscles that cause the tos also cause the trapezius muscles to tighten up which causes other muscles in his back and legs to tighten up making it extremely difficult for him to walk.

However, Humana refuses to pay for the surgery as Dr. Tollustrup is out of network and they have never referred him to a competent in network Dr. The cost of the surgery is about $35,000. All efforts at appeals and seeking help from Nevada Dept. of Ins. or DHHS  have been fruitless

At this point my brother is barely mobile, even though he lives alone and is IMO heroically maintaining himself. However, it is evident that he is failing and the refusal of insurance to provide proper treatment is endangering his physical and mental health and he does not feel life, such as it is, is worth living. He is in danger every day in trying to cope with his circumstances.

Jay has always been a hard worker. He looks forward to regaining a measure of functionality so that he can return to work to provide for himself.

Please donate whatever you can, even 5 or 10 dollars will help, to assist him to get this surgery and please share with others, thank you.
