AlFahama Neighbourhood

The one question I always ask myself and till today I have no answer to it. Why is it that the rate of charitable orginisations are increasing whilst the poverty rate around the world is also increasing?

As a result to this question I became my own charitable orginisation and I visited one of the least privileged areas in Iraq called Al Fahama neighbourhood on June 2017. Knowing that there are unprivileged people around the world is one thing. However, witnessing the lives of these unprivileged people with your own eyes is a total different experience.

On my first visit to this area I was so hurt by what my eyes had witnessed. And even till this day I struggle to express what it was like. Personally I had never encountered poverty like this before in my life. And something I realised actually was that the most repeated phrase expressed by the poor children was:
“I am thankful and I thank God in whatever state I am in.”

Usually in Iraq even the area where my family stay there are many poor families however there are other people in the area they can rely on but at Al Fahama neighbourhood everyone is poor, so if a family was to receive help by their neighbours you will actually find that the neighbours will be looking to receive the same if not more help and support as them. And this is what makes it truly heartbreaking.

I visited 10 houses in total and I was only able to capture footage from this household because as I would move onto the next house the worse the condition of the family would get and this was what made it emotionally difficult for me to continue to film. However,  Generosity was dripping from each home I entered and the children wouldn’t let me out of their homes unless they gave me something in return. They couldn’t believe someone had thought of them and approached them to create smiles on their faces and fill their hearts with happiness.

Leaving this area knowing I was only able to comfort 10 out of these hundreds of houses made me realise that I have to take care of all these children and families.
They need my help and we must look after these innocent people because if we don’t who will?
we must serve humanity andmake sure the needs of these people are met because they deserve it as much as we all do.

On December 2017 till January 2018 I will be reuniting with the people of AlFahama neighbourhood and hoping to recieve as much donations to achieve my goal and allow my camera to do the talking by providing support and comfort for many more households.
