Scott and Angela Hammer's youngest son Gavyn, at 12 years-old, was diagnosed with a common form of childhood bone Cancer on September 9, 2020. It is located on the right side of his spine, on the 3rd and 4th vertebrae.
His treatment plan right now consists of 14 rounds of Chemotherapy over the course of the next 8-10 months. It will be determined after the 6th round if radiation, surgery or both will be needed. He will be at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin located in Milwaukee alternating from 1-2 nights stays to 5-6 nights stays per round. His first round has been completed and is finishing up Round 2. The first round was to be the day his port was surgically placed but due to timing issues, it was postponed to the following day. Because of that issue, that required an additional nights stay. Round 2 is almost complete. He had a very frightening reaction to Etoposide(VP16). He had to be stabilized before trying a new one. He had to wait until the following morning to begin the administering of Etopophos. Thankfully, that went well. Unfortunately, once again, it added an additional nights stay.
These treatments will be adding up very quickly. It is my hope that we can raise enough money to where they can focus solely on the care of their son and not the financial burden. They also have 3 additional sons, Tyler 17, Dylan 15 and Jayden 14. They are truly an amazing family! Please let's come together to show them how very much we love them and support them!
Gavyn is a fighter! He has been extremely courageous and completely selfless by showing concern only for how is Mom is doing. This kid has heart and perseverance. He has, and will continue to do, whatever is asked of him. He is a force to be reckoned with!!
