Hamish Cook Severe Spinal Injury Family Assistance

Seventeen-year-old local Hamish Cook is currently in North Shore Hospital following an accident in the water at Crescent Head, which occurred at approximately 5.30pm on 13 January 2021. Hamish was pulled from the water by his mates. A Westpac Rescue Helicopter was forced to land on the golf course prior to winching and transporting Hamish by air to Royal North Shore Hospital spinal unit.
Hamish’s parents, Justin and Michelle, are by his side and expect to be in Sydney for months to come. Hamish’s younger siblings Bailey and Lyla are being cared for by their grandmother. Due to COVID the only visitors Hamish has had are his two parents, who remain at his bedside from 7am to 10pm daily.
Hamish has severe spinal damage which will likely see him wheelchair bound. Hamish is currently under the care of a spinal nurse 24 hours a day in high dependency at R.N.S.H. He will remain in Sydney for an extended period of time both at R.N.S.H. and then at Ryde Rehabilitation Hospital.
Hamish has played for the Cannonballs and Mustangs in recent seasons. Hamish worked two part-time jobs; Bumpa’s Bistro at Crescent Head Country Club and at The Rocks Fishing Charters. Hamish was due to attend Year 12 at St Pauls in 2021.
Hamish’s family remains positive. Their wish is to provide Hamish with the best care and the most positive future possible.
