Hal Epting's Cancer Fight

Many of us know him as Hal, boss-man, dad, brother, son, or friend. For those of us who have had the honor of knowing and growing close to Hal know he is quite literally one of a kind. Exuding genuine kindness and caring, Hal has consistently put others before himself; whether it be a simple gesture of helping a friend move or giving his last dollar away so someone else may eat, Hal has always been willing to help any way he can without having to ask. Now, Hal is in need of our help.


On February 2nd. Hal was admitted to a hospital in Goshen, Indiana where he was quickly transported 53 minutes via ambulance to the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. There, Hal was informed he had lung cancer that spread to the brain. Monday, February 6th, Hal underwent brain surgery to remove a tennis ball sized tumor on the right portion of his brain. Astounding doctors with his speedy recovery, Hal was released the Thursday of the same week. On February 21st pathology reports came back with a diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer of the right lung. Since diagnosis Hal has undergone radiation treatments for the brain cancer and will soon begin immunotherapy treatments to attack the lung cancer. Before Hal is able to receive immunotherapy he will need a PET (positron emission tomography) scan which is costly (over $1000). In addition to the PET scan Hal requires continued care, housing costs, medications, and daily necessities. As the sole caregiver of the household and now with an inability to work, the family is quickly running out of money and stretched thin trying to get Hal the care he so desperately needs. Hal should not have to worry about money right now but instead focus on getting healthy. Any donation, big or small, would help Hal get well and ease his and his family’s rampant anxieties.
