Hallow's Knee Surgery
Donazione protetta
Hi, I'm Lisa, for anyone who sees this and doesn't know me. My husband, David, and I are trying to raise funds for Hallow's knee surgery. Hallow is our much loved 5 year old cat and has never had any health problems. But a pesky moth was fluttering around our kitchen a few nights ago. With Hallow wanting to prove what a great hunter he is, he gave chase! Oh, the excitement! He bounded around the kitchen in uncontrollable delight! The moth fluttered over the stovetop to the top of the refrigerator, and so did Hallow...but Hallow doesn't have wings and lost his footing and went crashing to the floor. Our poor baby was hurt! He got up to hobble out of the kitchen, but couldn't put any weight on his back, right leg. First thing in the morning, we got him to the veterinarian's office. Hallow had completely torn his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and chipped the bone directly below it. The vet said not to worry; it's completely fixable. The success rate for this surgery is about 98%, with most pets going on to live normal, happy lives, with maybe some arthritis in old age.
The problem...our family has had a very rough couple of years. In early 2022, my vehicle was totaled by another driver who slid into me on an icy road. With vehicle costs being so high during covid, David opted to repair it himself, and he did a GREAT job with what little we got from insurance and our own money put with it. Also, David had to have multiple back and neck surgeries last year. If he didn't have them done, he was told he would become quadriplegic. Last year and so far this year, David wasn't able to work as much, as I'm sure you can imagine, and has earned only about half of what he would in regular years, since he's self-employed. But he IS healing, slowly but surely. After that, our pup, Amora, somehow got into something that affected her liver and was sick for a couple of months, also with veterinary bills that weren't cheap. Then our adult son, who is now staying with us, had the same type of injury Hallow has and more, due to him being as adventurous as Hallow (but on a skateboard). He is slowly recuperating, but may need surgery, too. And...I've had extensive dental work over the past 8 years. My mouth was practically rebuilt. But now, something has happened. All the dental work is failing and my upper jaw is losing bone at rapid rate. My dentist isn't sure why, and I will be making an appointment at the UC School of Dental Medicine to see what they know. It could be auto-immune related. But all my top teeth, implants included, have to come out, with my only option being a top denture. All that will be $9000 out of pocket.
After these past 2 years, we are simply tapped out, financially. At the moment, I'm the only one of us who has a full time income. This is hard because I'm used to being the one who helps others, especially with pet related expenses. I don't think I've ever had to ask for help before, but I'm not too proud to do it when it comes to my babies. And I am asking for help, $2000 to be exact. My pets come before my teeth. If I'm toothless and wearing a mask, Hallow will come first and he will get that surgery, even if I have to beg on a street corner. The veterinarian we are using is very experienced with this surgery. He's done many of them, more than our usual veterinarian has done. And the cost of it is $2000. Our regular vet has also said that's the usual rate. If you can donate any amount at all, we will be forever grateful. No amount is too small. Please help my baby boy. Thank you.
