Race Toward a Cure for Leukemia

On November 23rd I will be running the Philadelphia Half Marathon in memory of Vinny Cahill.  He was our neighbor for 20 years, my best friends’ Dad, and pretty much a second father to me. He was very special to many people and truly one of a kind. He passed away on August 28, 2013 from Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML) and has been missed every day since. There is a quote from the famous Jimmy V "Don’t Ever Give Up" speech in which he says, “Cancer can take away all my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever.” I don’t think there is a better quote that embodies Vinny Cahill’s attitude toward cancer. Over the past 15 months, his family has done an extraordinary job of keeping his positive outlook, sense of humor, and love for life alive.  On November 23rd, I will proudly run 13.1 miles to celebrate this great man and show that we carry him with us every day.

Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia is a terrible disease that affects too many people. Each year there are about 1,110 new cases diagnosed. I am raising money that will be donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Vinny Cahill's memory. This money will provide support to those affected by this disease and most importantly fund research for future prevention and treatment. Any donation that you make would mean the world to me. All donations of $50 or more you will receive a t-shirt, which we will all be wearing on the day of the run.
