Help Halen Receive the Prosthetic Leg he Deserves.

Donation protected
We’re pulling all resources available for my nephew Halen Reeves (20 years old). At the age of eleven, Halen was diagnosed with a rare bone disorder called Hajdu-Cheney Syndrome (HCS) Hajdu-Cheney syndrome: MedlinePlus Genetics and there are less than 100 people diagnosed with this syndrome. Halen is currently undergoing numerous health issues pertaining to this rare syndrome however, Halen has a new battle to confront. Back in 2019, Halen tore his ACL and tears in his lateral and medial meniscus while playing basketball. Halen was given a donated cadaver ligament to replace his ACL and repair the torn meniscuses. Shortly after the first surgery, Halen struggled to fully regain motion in his right knee due to aggressive scar tissue developing immediately after the surgery. This led Halen to eventually have further surgeries. From 2019 to 2023, Halen would undergo nine (9) additional surgeries for both scar tissue and three (3) infectious diseases with his last surgery completed in September 2023.

Given the numerous corrective surgeries with no results, Halen was referred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Halen was evaluated by an Orthopedic Surgeon who discussed the options with the Vanderbilt Board of Doctors. The decision was made that amputation of the right leg was the only viable option for quality of life. Halen made the decision to go forward with the surgery and on February 21, 2024 the amputation took place. Since his surgery, Halen continues to heal and is preparing to walk with a prosthetic leg. His rehabilitation will begin with a mechanical leg and will progress to an intermediate prosthetic. He will also need to have his vehicle converted to a left footed gas pedal in order for him to drive. Through this, Halen has also lost his educational scholarship, had to leave college and has been on medical leave from work. All funds raised, will be used to support paying for his prosthetics legs, conversion of his vehicle, and future medical appointments dealing with HCS.
