Haleigh's Helpers

Haleigh Penton, the healthy 17 year old daughter of Nicole & John Cory and Brett & Leah Penton, began having  flu like symptoms on Wednesday, Oct 9th, 2019. She was running a low grade fever and had body aches and didn’t feel well. She went to the doctor and her strep and influenza test came back negative. She was sent home on Wednesday  evening with instructions to treat it like a virus: lots of fluids and rest. From that evening until now Haleigh has had a whirlwind of health issues that ultimately landed her in Iowa City at the Stead Family Children's Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.  Haleigh's medical issues are very complex and there are many unknowns. We do know that cancer has been ruled out which is a HUGE blessing!  However, she is still very sick and further testing is required to come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan.  At the time of this story being written she is receiving her second blood transfusion. Since hospitalization she has received 36 bags of plasma.     

Haleigh has a great team of doctors, nurses and care staff helping her get back to her healthy self.  They plan for her to be in the hospital for 2 more weeks with extensive outpatient visits the following weeks  depending on the diagnosis.  

Although Haleigh has medical insurance that we anticipate covering  a portion of the medical bills there is a need for assistance with medical copays, travel expenses for her family, loss of income for her parents, and other expenses normally incurred during an unexpected extended hospital stay.  

We ask that on behalf of Haleigh and her family that you prayerfully consider being one of Haleigh's Helpers and donate to this fund.  If you are unable to donate financially please consider donating blood or plasma at area blood donation sites.  Also we ask that you continue to pray for healing and answers!
