Hailey's Nepal Education Mission

Tax deductible

Hello:) My name is Hailey Brenden. I'm a small-town Minnesota gal on a mission. After three years of teaching in Minnesota and two years of volunteering as a writer in England, I'm about to go on a mission to Nepal!

No, I'm not going to climb Mt. Everest (I'm highly unqualified for that!) I'm on my way to do education mission work as an ELCA volunteer.

I was fortunate to be able to go on a solo journalistic trip to Nepal in April 2017. The British organization I was working for (BMS World Mission ) sent me to gather stories about the education and earthquake recovery work they support. But, I came back with so much more than content.

I fell in love with the friendly people and beautiful mountain views. But my heart also broke for a country that is one of the poorest and least-developed in the world. I saw places where the devastation of the 2015 earthquakes that killed around 9,000 people was still evident. I also met amazing Nepali teachers who wanted the best for their students, but had never been trained.

It's why I feel called to go back and help. A door has opened to volunteer as a Communications Coordinator at the Kathmandu International Study Center (KISC) . It's a K-13 international Christian school that supports the mission community and Nepali school communities through a teacher training program.

Practically, it's my goal to use my passion for communication and background in education to support KISC's mission. My other goals are to build strong relationships and share God's love with the people I meet.

But, I know I can't do it alone. I'll need prayers and financial support. My goal is to raise $11,000 and hopefully be there by spring or early summer. Most of the funds will go to cover my basic living expenses while I serve in the country for up to two years. $1,000 will go to help Radhika, a 14-year-old girl, who I met while in Nepal. She needs help financially to be able to stay in school. (Her story is very close to my heart because she also happens to be a talented distance runner! See selfie of us below.)

But most importantly, by supporting my efforts, you will be helping improve education in Nepal.

I'm grateful for this opportunity and would appreciate your support! As they say in Nepal, Namaste:)
