My dear friend Haifa Gebrail was the most joyful person many of us have ever met.  She is such a kind beautiful soul.  Such a huge compassionate heart, so generous, always smiling and laughing about something.

Two weeks ago Haifa was the victim of a brutal assault and is currently in hospital recovering with critical and life threatening injuries.  She still needs help to breathe and eats with the assistance of a tube.  They are slowly cutting back her medication and sedation to see if her consciousness is still there, if any.
Her family is heartbroken and angry.  It all seems surreal, unfair and devastating that this could happen to such a sweet person.

Her uncle Sarkis Sleiman’s statement :

“Dear Society,

Agents of chaos are never far from our lives. No amount of prayer or planning can effectively eliminate random violence or deter those who delight in hurting others. There are ways, however, to at least shield ourselves somewhat from known criminal elements that walk among us.
There are parasites that have taken hold in our community, that prey on the most innocent individuals of our families, who, through manipulation, false friendships and lies, slowly leech away resources; resources that have been hard-won through dogged pursuit of public services through the quagmire of governments and administrations. Once these tax-funded resources are set in place, out come the maggots to suck it all away, to be used in the selfish and destructive use of illegal substances.

When the abuse of the innocents come to light, the cockroaches flee to the protection of the taxpayer funded social services which they personally enjoy, only to reoffend over and over to ruin the lives of other vulnerable people. They rob society, you and me, all of us, twice, as well as robbing their victims.

When these recidivists are released back into the community of their victims, there should be a means of communication to the community, just as we would be made aware of those who prey on children, we should be made aware of those who prey on our other defenseless members of society: the intellectually challenged, the physically disabled, the elderly, newcomers to Canada. The wholesale sacrifice of our most vulnerable family members and neighbours merely to shore up the rights of offenders must cease. We should all have the freedom to be safe from violence.

Haifa, my niece, is one of the sweetest people ever to walk the earth. Her gift to the world is her unflappable sense of optimism and joy in simple things. Her eagerness to help others has tragically been the thing to bring her low, as her willingness to extend the hand of friendship to those who most certainly did not deserve it has resulted in the loss of her only worldly possessions and her brutal, unjust assault. Of all people who are worthy of community support, Haifa was the poster child; helpful and eager to give back to the very community from which that support has come. All of the careful machinery set in place to help her live independently has fallen to nothing. An entire team of hardworking and dedicated personal care and community helpers have seen their work come to nothing. Her battered body lies in ICU, depending on machines and medical professionals to keep her alive, just so a few callous opportunists can get their fix. They beat her so badly. It’s tantamount to kicking a puppy.

I write this as a howl of grief to the universe and a plea to the people of our community, to please help in bringing these parasites to justice. If you have any information, if you know someone who knows someone who knows something, I implore you to come forward, be an agent of good in the face of chaos, bring some order to the world, stop the agents of chaos before they come for someone you love. If we do nothing, we allow the evil to drain us dry. Let future you look back at present you and feel proud of your decision.

This message is directly from the family and friends of Haifa Gebrail”

A prayer and plea to anyone who can offer information to help our beautiful Haifa.  It means the world to Haifa’s family as they begin to fight for her life and help to give her the life she deserves.
So many of you have reached out asking how you can help Haifa outside of prayer.  The amount of love and community support has been incredibly overwhelming.

There is a long hard road to recovery ahead for Haifa.  Unfortunately, there are holes and gaps in the socialized and medical support system that can create roadblocks to Haifa’s full rehabilitation.  Basic health care is not enough to accommodate Haifa’s special needs.  Haifa deserves the very best tools to help her heal,  unfortunately that can be very costly.
As Haifa heals her mind, body and spirit,  she will require a soft place to land in order to remain independent and continue to live the happy and loving life she deserves.  Help show her this world still has goodness in it and that the light can defeat the darkness!

I have created this GoFundMe page to help raise financial support for the family of Haifa Gebrail so they could at least have one less thing to stress about.  This financial support will go straight to the family of Haifa Gebrail to assist in making her day to day just a little bit easier and to enjoy the simple things,  the way it should be.  Haifa is a survivor of robbery and attempted murder and now needs your help.

As her family moves forward and begins this long road of healing,  please consider supporting them anyway possible,  by making a donation to help ease and relieve some financial burden.  Your donations will help with her mental and physical conditions,  medical treatments,  therapy,  rehabilitation,  nutrition,  long care and living expenses.  Any financial support no matter how small or large would be unbelievably appreciated.

They will be forever grateful to you for your donations and for your continued prayers for Haifa.  Thank you from the very bottom of our hearts.
