Philly Sound Exchange '21-22 Season

Tax deductible
In a country that has become more divided than ever we are providing space for young people to come together and use their talents, passions, and artistic innovations to create connection and social change. Philly Sound Exchange is intentional with bringing students from the city and the suburbs together for projects that use the arts to foster conversations around race, equity, and social justice.

  • We use music as a common language to engage students in collaborative, cross-cultural, student-centered productions that reflect our many identities.
  • We create professional quality digital content and live performances in order to amplify student voice.
  • We equip students and teachers with tools for engaging in and leading courageous conversations around race, identity, and social justice.

We're entering our third season and are excited to build on our success from last year's Visual Album and Student Docuseries! Students dove into dialogue around Identity, Bias, and Systemic Racism and made art that reflects those courageous conversations. Thank you to everyone who supported last years programming!

This season we're working with students from Plymouth Whitemarsh, KIPP, St. Joe's Prep, Gwynedd Mercy Academy, Parkway NW, Springfield Township HS, Temple, Lincoln, and Berkeley College of Music. We're excited to have the opportunity to work with rapper Dice Raw from the Roots to compose and record music for a musical based on Beverly Daniel Tatum's book "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria." Dice runs Forge Recording in Oreland and is also the CEO of Freedom Theatre in Philly so we're so grateful for all the opportunities that will come with this collaboration. Vans Footwear is back on board providing funding for our video production so we're equipped to create more high-quality content!!

New initiatives for this year include building a clubhouse space for our students, expanding our leadership training program, and growing our school-wide impact through student-led assemblies and workshops. Your support will help fund music and video session facilitators, instruments/equipment, transportation and administrative costs.
