Funds for Sophie
This text and initiative were created by friends from Brazil, who were unable to start the fund raising campaign as they live in a different country. For this reason I (Stephen) am creating it here in the United States.
At the beginning of December 2020 (what a year!) Sophie, the beloved youngest of 4 children of the couple Stephen and Tamiris Hobbs, with only 2 years old, saw her vitality being drained. It was a month of coming and going to the pediatrician in an attempt to find out what she had (it all started with nausea and vomiting without apparent causes), a month of many frustrations mainly due to the lack of answers, taking care of symptoms that are now known to be consequences of the cancer that affected her.
Below (see Facebook link below) is described the entire situation that has brought Sophie up to the present moment, already operated and at the hospital for almost a month, being prepared for post-surgical treatment, which justifies this initiative that comes from friends of the Hobbs couple, who are going through challenging trials that willing people like you and us can alleviate.
For a young couple struggling to provide the best for their four kids, finally adapting to life in USA after many challenges along the years and also miracles (get to know a little bit more via Facebook link below), it was too much to see the life of their baby fade away without any explanation, they made the decision to do what has to be done to save her life and now that she is being treated, it is still a lot and very overwhelming, and it was too much for their family and friends to just sit back and watch.
For sure, no one can take Sophies place in this physical and emotional process she is passing through, no one can replace Tamiris who is by her side all the time at the hospital or replace Stephen and her in their responsibilities and things that they must do in order to support Sophie and make it possible for her to have the adequate treatment and recovery. Only a few people are able to help Sophie get better as health professionals, and just a few people can physically support the other kids by taking care of them or cooking meals for them, however there is something that every person can do to support them. People like us can create a text like this, build a website and start a campaign, and someone like you can read it, donate and/or, at least, share to everyone that can be a resource for them right now. We can’t do much, but anything we can do may be enough. For example, if 5500 people can contribute with just US $10.00, at least the initial expenses can be covered and will provide some breathing room for the family, which would be a big relief right now. We still don't know what the future holds for Sophie, and the real amount needed from now to the end (we don’t even know when the end will come, and every need may change and increase). So, please, do it. Help. Involve yourself and others in this special cause. If you just want to donate directly, without better understanding the context, the goals of the campaign are right here. The goal of this initiative is to get people, no matter where they live, to contribute with ANY AMOUNT to:
1) Help to assist with the medical expenses already generated and those that will follow;
2) Help to assist with the monthly expenses of the family whose income has already been compromised with Tamiris being away from work (she has a part time job that she does from home and allows her to contribute without being away from the kids) and whose income will be completely cut off when radiology treatment begins, at least until it is finished, as Stephen will also need to be on unpaid family medical leave from work;
3) Make it possible for Stephen to go to Phoenix (for practical reasons, and mostly because of finances, it is probable that Sophie will have to be separated from her mom, and we are doing our best to avoid this). If possible, we expect to raise funds for the whole family to be in Phoenix for probably a couple months, so that Sophie does not need to feel the absence of her mother at all, nor Amanda, Bruno and Enzo, her brothers and sister.
We ask that, if you are unable to contribute with donations, generously share this campaign on your social networks and also share it directly to the people you consider able to help and/or share, so that the sufferings of this family are alleviated and their burdens become lighter. No início de dezembro de 2020 (que ano!) Sophie, a querida caçula dos 4 filhos do casal Stephen e Tamiris Hobbs, de apenas 2 anos, viu sua vitalidade ser drenada. Foi um mês de idas e vindas ao pediatra na tentativa de saber o que ela tinha (tudo começou com náuseas e vômitos sem causa aparente), um mês de muitas frustrações principalmente pela ausência de respostas, cuidando dos sintomas que agora se sabe serem consequências do câncer que a afetou.
A seguir é descrita toda a situação que trouxe Sophie até o presente momento, já operada e hospitalizada há quase um mês, se preparando para o tratamento pós-cirúrgico, o que justifica esta iniciativa que vem de amigos do casal Hobbs, que passam por provações desafiadoras passíveis de serem aliviadas por pessoas dispostas como você e como nós.
Para um jovem casal lutando para dar o melhor para os quatro filhos, finalmente se adaptando à vida nos EUA depois de muitos desafios ao longo dos anos e também milagres (conheça um pouco mais abaixo), foi demais ver a vida de sua bebê se esvair sem nenhuma explicação, tomar a decisão de apenas fazer o que tinha que ser feito para salvar a vida dela e, agora que está sendo tratada, ainda é demais lidar com o que eles estão lidando agora. E é demais para sua família e amigos apenas assistir. Certamente ninguém pode livrar Sophie do processo físico e emocional pelo qual ela está passando, ninguém pode substituir Tamiris que está ao seu lado o tempo todo no hospital ou substituir a ela e ao Stephen em suas responsabilidades e na providência de suporte para Sophie que possibilitará que ela tenha o tratamento e a recuperação adequados. Apenas algumas pessoas poucas podem trabalhar na melhoria dela (a equipe médica e outros funcionários do hospital), apenas algumas pessoas podem apoiar fisicamente seus outros filhos seja cuidando deles ou preparando refeições, no entanto, há algo que qualquer um de nós pode fazer para colaborar. Pessoas comuns como nós podem escrever um informativo como este, construir um site e abrir uma campanha, para que pessoas comuns como você possam ler, doar e/ou, pelo menos, compartilhar com todos que poderiam ser um recurso para eles agora.
Talvez não possamos fazer muito, mas qualquer coisa que possamos fazer pode ser o suficiente. Por exemplo, se 5.500 pessoas puderem contribuir com apenas US$ 10,00, pelo menos as despesas iniciais poderão ser cobertas e permitirão à família tomar um fôlego que representará grande alívio nesse momento. Ainda não sabemos o que o futuro reserva para Sophie, e a quantidade real necessária de agora até o fim de tudo (nem mesmo sabemos quando o fim chegará, e cada necessidade pode mudar e aumentar). Então, por favor, faça. Ajude. Envolva-se e a outras pessoas nesta causa especial. Se você quer apenas doar diretamente, sem entender melhor o contexto, os objetivos da campanha estão logo a seguir. Agradecemos antecipadamente por sua disposição em contribuir, se possível, e em compartilhar com tantas pessoas quanto sua influência puder alcançar. O objetivo desta iniciativa é fazer com que as pessoas, independentemente de suas condições e de onde vivam, contribuam com QUALQUER QUANTIA (cada centavo importa) para:
1) Ajudar a auxiliar nas despesas médicas já geradas e nas que virão;
2) Ajudar no custeio das despesas mensais da família cuja renda já foi comprometida pelo fato de Tamiris estar afastada do trabalho (ela tinha um trabalho de meio período que podia fazer de casa e permitia que ela contribuísse sem estar longe dos filhos) e cuja renda será completamente cortada quando a radioterapia começar, pelo menos até que seja concluído, pois Stephen também precisará estar em licença médica familiar não-remunerada, afastado do trabalho;
3) Possibilitar que ao menos Stephen vá para Seattle com Sophie (por motivos práticos, e principalmente por questões financeiras, é provável que Sophie tenha que se separar de sua mãe, e estamos fazendo o possível para evitar isso). Se possível, esperamos arrecadar fundos para que toda a família fique em Seattle por provavelmente dois meses, para que Sophie não precise sentir a ausência da mãe, nem tampouco Amanda e os gêmeos Bruno e Enzo, seus irmãos.
Pedimos que, caso não lhe seja possível contribuir doando, compartilhe generosamente esta campanha em suas redes sociais e também a partilhe diretamente com as pessoas que considera poder ajudar e/ou compartilhar, para que os sofrimentos desta família sejam aliviados e seus fardos se tornam mais leves.
