Jorge Alfredo's Medical Fund

Jorge Alfredo is a vibrant, motivated, and committed father of two and computer science professor who has been fighting cancer for the last three years. Jorge Alfredo has multiple myeloma, which causes cancer cells to accumulate in the bone marrow, where they crowd out healthy blood cells. The cancer has caused severe pain in his backbone.

Jorge Alfredo has already undergone many treatments for his illness, most of which have been covered by insurance and complemented by his and his close family's income, but now he has reached the limit of his insurance coverage and has exhausted his family's savings. This makes it difficult for him to now afford his final potential treatment option, which is a bone marrow transplant.

This fundraising effort aims to help Jorge Alfredo be able to afford this last course of treatment. Overall, he has been lucky in that his brother is a good donor for the bone marrow transplant and that he has been able to identify a hospital in Bogota, Colombia that is able to carry out the procedure for $100,000. Although this treatment would be far more expensive in the United States, the amount is still out of reach for Jorge Alfredo and for his family.
