Black Lives Matter Pittsburgh Southwest PA is committed to making a lasting change in the Civil Rights arena.
We asked members what they would like to see from us, and we found that many see education as an area in which we can make a huge impact.
Literacy rates in the black youth are still far behind those of white youth; above that, there is a notable lack of resources available for kids who would like to learn black history outside of the month of February.
Our aim is to get 100 books into the hands of black children in under served communities focusing on topics such as: civil rights, diversity, black history, emotional management, and difficult conversations.
With any additional funds, we seeks to provide children's books on diversity and race to ally parents looking to have that conversation.
Books are an easy rrtway to focus on literacy, foster meaningful conversations, and create an experience that can be shared. Please help us make the difference.
