LEROY AND GWENDOLYN (UMBLES) SINGLETERRY BOOK SCHOLARSHIP
I INVITE A TOTAL OF SIXTY OF MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO HELP ME TO KICK OFF THE FORMULATION OF THE Leroy and Gwendolyn(Umbels) Singleterry BOOK SCHOLARSHIP.
IN HONOR OF MY 60TH YEAR ON THIS EARTH, I ASK THAT YOU BECOME A PART OF MY FUNDRAISING EFFORT TO HELP ESTABLISH , ON BEHALF OF AND RECOGNITION OF MY PARENTS, THIS BOOK SCHOLARSHIP.
I found out at an early age, and recognized how they both valued higher education and they recognized that not all young people in our community had the opportunity or access to pursue their dream of attending college, due to many challenges.
When my Father passed away in 1998, so many people, young and old shared stories of how he and my Mother had been such an inspiration and encouragement. One of the stories that has stuck with me to this very day is how he helped them to secure the finances to purchase their college textbooks. helped them complete a college application, answered questions, I know that it may be a small gesture, but it made a difference ! I have always wanted to honor my parents and they have always been my inspiration !!
You can make a donation in the amount of $ 60.00 or any amount of your choosing to help kick off the
campaign for this book scholarship. The scholarship will be given to two high school seniors, the goal is to give in May 2021, from McKinley Senior High School, who will either attend Kent State University or Ohio State University, or an HBCU. The main purpose of the scholarship is to give additional financial support to purchase college textbooks.
Applications will be made available in April 2021, more information to follow !
