Dear Family and Friends,
I really need your help raising money to attend this year's Guatemala medical mission trip.
As a fourth year medical student, I will be working with a local non-profit organization called Missio Dei providing medical care and supplies to hundreds of families in different communities and orphanages in Guatemala. The trip is this October and the money will go to covering my own travel expenses, medical supplies and medications needed for the mission.
Last year, the medical team was able to see about 1,000 patients and filled over 3,000 prescriptions. The team was able to provide everything from prenatal care to treating skin cancer. They were able to deliver antibiotics to those people who would not normally have access to such basic medications. Most importantly the team was able to show these families love and compassion.
I personally have always had a desire to help those less fortunate and this has ultimately been my reasoning for entering the medical field. Upon completing medical school next year I plan on applying for a residency in Pediatrics. I know that this trip will be a life changing experience furthering my desire to help others. As a fluent Spanish speaker I will be able to not only provide medical assistance but also translate for other medical volunteers allowing for more personal care.
I hope that you would be able to donate anything towards helping me reach this goal. The total cost of the trip is $1500 dollars with the first deposit of $750 due on June 15th. I hope to raise enough money to cover any additional expenses while in Guatemala and fundraising fees.
