Hello Friends,
Five days ago , Guapo stumbled while trying to get into his bag. I took him to the vet immediately. He was partially paralyzed in one rear leg - he was given meds and a 90% chance of recovery. Within 4 hours he was fully paralyzed in his back legs. The next day, he was seen by a neurologist and received an MRI. It showed a herniated disc and too much swelling; surgery wouldn't fix it, there was nothing to do but wait and hope, and I was warned the paralysis could ascend into his front limbs and even affect his breathing. While it is rare, that is what happened. 4 days after first showing symptoms, he could no longer breathe. He died at home in my arms, getting lots of love and hearing what a "good boy" he was.
If you're here, it's because you cared about him, or you care about me and want to show it. He was a special little beast that brought smiles to countless humans. I've created this go fund me account as a way to give anyone who wants to the opportunity to help in a meaningful way.
I have accrued over $3000 in medical and after-life expenses for Guapo in the past 5 days. Please know -- I can absolutely make payments on that in the upcoming months without severely hindering my life. So please don't even condsider giving if it would be a hinderance to yours.
I know from recent personal experience that in the face of grief, people want to act. They want to do SOMETHING to show they care. I received so many lovely orchids, plants, and flower arrangements after the death of my mother. I am infinitely grateful for the outpouring of love, and this time I thought I'd offer up a way to show support that would also be a huge help for me.
If you are considering buying flowers, a card, a meal, anything really -- I invite you instead to put that money towards this fund. Again, this is not necessary - I know how much he was loved, and I am beyond grateful for everything that my community has done and continues to do to support me.
Oceans of gratitude,
Alyssa
