We have very exciting news at Awakened Living! We have found a new space for our Sunday morning gatherings! We will be moving into a beautiful room (The Salon) inside the Hotel Rex in Union Square starting on June 5th!

Awakened Living is a 21st century movement for people who consider themselves spiritual, but not religious, and have a deep hunger for personal and global transformation.
Our mission is to encourage and inspire the awakening of human consciousness.

The Hotel Rex was originally constructed in 1907 and restored by Joie de Vivre Hospitality in 1996. The Salon in the hotel is a unique and opulent space with rich ruby-red carpeting, gold-toned lamp chandeliers and caricature drawings by Jack Keating. This elegant, yet relaxed, 1920's literati atmosphere is a delightfully intimate setting.

What Makes Us Unique
In spiritual communities, people are often told what to believe. Awakened Living is different because we do not rely on a dogma or a prescribed set of beliefs. We feel it is more valuable to ask the right questions rather than purport to have the correct answers. At Awakened Living, we believe how we think is as important as what we think and that authenticity and truth emerge from listening to the intelligence of our own being. It is our intention to provide a forum and practices for individuals to access their inner knowing.
Vision and Goals
The goal of Awakened Living is to continue growing our thriving spiritual community in San Francisco which serves the broader community in multiple ways. Open to all people seeking personal development, it will continue to serve as a beacon of transformation. This will be accomplished through hosting a variety of events including services, workshops, classes and social gatherings.
Additionally, Awakened Living is dedicated to giving back 5% of its proceeds to the larger San Francisco community in the form of programs and community projects which will encourage the fulfillment of our mission. This will be achieved through partnering with other established non-profit organizations and/or developing our own community-based programs.
In a recent branding survey, it was determined that new paradigm spirituality resonates with a high percentage of urban dwellers. Several themes emerged to support this finding. Awakened Living’s messages of “Spiritual, but not religious” and “Connecting with a community of like-minded people” were two statements that scored very highly with respondents. Even in a city as open-minded as San Francisco, many of the spiritual communities are born from religious traditions. Awakened Living will meet the needs of San Franciscans who hunger for our message of personal empowerment and joyful living in a non-religious environment.

Founder and Spiritual Director – TJ Woodward
TJ Woodward is a Spiritual Author, Awakening Coach, Inspirational Speaker and Addiction Counselor.
He is a graduate of both the Spiritual Development Program and the Leadership Development Program at Unity Institute in Unity Village, MO.
From 2008-2011, TJ served as Ministerial Associate of Unity San Francisco, where he delivered inspirational messages at services, created and presented relevant seminars and assisted in daily management of the organization. Prior to his formal training at Unity Institute, Mr. Woodward was a member of the Board of Trustees at Unity San Francisco for five years, (2002-2006) serving as its President for the last two years of that term.
Additionally, from 2009-2011, TJ worked as a counselor with a highly diverse population in a dual diagnosis recovery program in Sausalito. In 2011, he was named Spiritual Director and created a specialized spiritual care component within the primary treatment program. In that role, TJ conducted individual counseling sessions with clients and facilitated interactive groups with a focus on spirituality and recovery.
In 2012, he received his interfaith minister’s ordination and formed Awakened Living.
Today, he is the minister and spiritual director of Awakened Living, is in private practice as a spiritual counselor and awakening coach, and works as the spiritual care counselor and group facilitator at an intensive outpatient treatment program in San Francisco. Additionally, he is the author of the book,
Conscious BEING: Awakening to your True Nature.
Assistant Spiritual Director – Rev. Joan Steadman
Rev. Dr. Joan Steadman has been an ordained Centers for Spiritual Living minister for 19 years. Recently, she reFIRed, releasing her position as Spiritual Leader at the Oakland Center for Spiritual Living where she served for fifteen years. Previous to that, she was an assistant minister at the Agape International Spiritual Center for two years and a licensed spiritual practitioner for thirteen years.
In 1986, she joined Dr. Michael Beckwith and was a founding member of Agape where she served in many capacities. Rev. Joan was on the Vision Core and the original Board of Trustees. She was the founder and director of One from the Heart, the pastoral care ministry at Agape. Under her leadership, that ministry grew and became one of the largest pastoral care ministries in the New Thought movement. While at Agape, she also facilitated accredited classes and many workshops centering in the mystical aspect of New Thought/Ancient Wisdom.
Rev. Joan has been a featured speaker, workshop facilitator, and retreat facilitator at many spiritual centers nationwide, as well as at various New Thought conventions and conferences. She has written curricula for Practical Mysticism and for Visioning, both certified classes with Centers for Spiritual Living, and has authored articles and meditations in the Science of Mind Magazine, New Thought Magazine, and Inner Visions. She has also served on various committees for conventions and conferences.
Rev. Joan is deeply dedicated to the evolution of the planet through the transformation of consciousness, as she remains open to the next expression of her ministry.
