2020 has been an interesting year, where we’ve all been challenged to go deeper into ourselves and find the strength to endure a lot of change. From negative changes such as dealing with a pandemic and increases in layoffs and unemployment to positive changes such as building more empathy and becoming more active in anti-racist dialogue and a historic election result resulting in our first woman, first Black, and first South Asian Vice President, a lot has happened.
As a design community, Roseville UX has also learned to adapt and go deeper on our values, lean on each other, and stay connected. We transitioned from in-person to virtual events in March which has broadened our membership and given us the flexibility to host lunchtime events, we’ve made deeper ties through collaborations with our partners and got our first sponsor, but this is just the beginning. There’s still a lot more to do!

Our operating costs, though lean, still cost $40/month and are paid out of pocket by our lean volunteer team. Unfortunately, this isn’t sustainable.

As we approach 2021, we’d love to continue implementing opportunities to uplevel designers and kickstart us on the road to becoming a more formal educational organization, as well as increase outreach in our region north of the Bay Area. This includes:
- Make our past events accessible in more ways via podcasts and blog posts
-Create more educational and interactive content including virtual classes
- Put together a virtual conference or series of interactive portfolio and design thinking workshops in addition to our monthly talks
- Support designers through featured design critiques and feedback sessions
We want to fundraise $1500 by the end of December to cover our current operating costs, expand on more digital platforms, and broaden our industry-savvy workshops.
