Grow a woodland in Portugal

Those who knew Jon B. know just how much he loved the Alentejo landscape.

He had a long-lasting love for Portugal, often saying that he had left his heart in the Alentejo. A part of it at least. Portugal was a place where Jon himself lived and worked on and off for several years in the 80s and 90s; a significant place for his son, two daughters and stepchildren growing up with a lasting impression on them as adults.

He loved the cork tree forests, and the olive groves and often talked of the fragrant peace of walking between the orange trees. For years he talked of buying a small piece of land in the Alentejo where he could sit and contemplate the beautiful landscape, practice his rusty piano playing, and indulge in red wine, poems and Monk.

In his honour, his children Amy, Lotte and Billy have decided that they will try to make this thought come true and (hopefully in the next coming year) buy a bit of land and with your help plant a small woodland in his memory.

Donations will go towards buying and maintaining native trees to plant on the land - where all will be welcome to come and stay any time and camp and sit and contemplate.

If this project turns out to be unviable, all proceeds will be donated to a charity instead. There were many charities Jon supported and many great causes he advocated for. A recurring charity he donated to was Amnesty International.

What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.
