Grounded Wellness Community Fund

We started a new GoFundMe page to collect donations for 2021! Mission and purpose is the same! Find it here: https://gofund.me/95a1c315

In 2018 6.8 million self-identified Black/African American individuals had a diagnosable mental illness in the previous year and are more likely than White people to lack the resources to access care. That was even before the COVID-19 pandemic, national changes in employment possibilities, and the most recent fights against racial injustice and police brutality.

The need for mental health services for Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) is skyrocketing! Grounded Wellness LLC wants to do their part in meeting this need. We want to provide free individual and group therapy to Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) in need of mental health services who do not have usable insurance (some insurance plans deductibles prevent people from benefiting from their plans). We also want to provide health coaching to individuals who can benefit from assistance in improving their sleep, increasing exercise and meditation practices, and adjusting their diets to contribute to their overall wellbeing.

My name is Dr. Rebecca Hubbard and I am a licensed clinical psychologist and the owner of Grounded Wellness. As a Black-White biracial woman, the long history of racial inequality lives in my bones and I have wrestled with how I can best contribute to social justice. My natural talents and values led me to become a therapist, and feel very fortunate to have had mentorship that has helped me provide safe spaces to BIPOC. Grounded Wellness started as a solo private practice in Chicago, where I serve my clients, most of whom are BIPOC. Since I started the practice in 2015, I have always sought to expand my reach, serve more people and also provide support in overall wellness. My desire led to adding other Black clinicians and also Health Coaches to our staff. Together, we have engaged in community partnerships with other organizations who share our mission to serve BIPOC and their need for safe spaces to facilitate healing.

In this racial climate, most BIPOC prefer seeing a BIPOC provider, which is an appropriate and completely understandable desire. Unfortunately, only about 14% of mental health professionals identify as BIPOC. We are a small group practice with majority Black providers in Hyde Park on the Southside of Chicago and can offer services to people anywhere in Illinois virtually. Donations will be used to pay Black therapists and health coaches for their work with eligible BIPOC clients, materials necessary for therapy, and multiculturally competent supervision for the providers.

Some of our existing BIPOC clients would benefit from this fund immediately. We are also looking to expand our services to be able to provide services to more BIPOC clients with your donations. We are thinking beyond the next few months! We want to be able to make our Grounded Wellness community a long-term resources to our existing and new BIPOC clients.

Thank you to our existing supporters and community partners. We feel fortunate to have connected with so many folks over the past few years who have benefited from our workshops, therapy, health coaching, and online resources.

If you're new to learning about Grounded Wellness, we hope that you are excited about joining our community by contributing to our community fund, and thereby making culturally competent mental health and wellness services available to BIPOC who need it. We vow complete transparency (while maintaining confidentiality of our clients). Quarterly updates on how Grounded Wellness Community funds were used will be made public on our website . Donations are not tax deductible.
