Gracie Johnson Family Fund

Gracie Johnson, a two time survivor of childhood leukemia, is a beautiful, sweet 18 year old that has just been diagnosed with a rare, very aggressive, and incurable form of brain cancer, Anaplastic Astrocytoma Glioma, Grade 3. This is a secondary malignancy from radiation received for her leukemia diagnosis. Gracie will receive some very difficult radiation and chemo to help prolong life as much as possible. She has been given a two year survival rate, but if anyone can beat the odds, it's Gracie! Gracie's battle first began at the age of 3 when after enjoying a kids' show at the Lake Charles Civic Center, her parents noticed bruising on her and took her to the emergency room. She was transported to TX Children's Hospital in Houston that night and diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and began the very rough road of testing and treatment. A little over a year into treatment, Gracie relapsed. She endured all put before her including chemo and radiation with 'Grace', as her name implies. No matter the pain or illness, Gracie maintained her radiant smile and positive outlook giving strength to all around her. As this battle was going on, her father, James Johnson, a member of the National Guard, was called into battle in Iraq. While there, his transport vehicle was hit by an IED, killing some of his men and severely and permanently injuring James. Through it all, this family maintained their faith and a completely positive outlook. Fast forward to two weeks ago, when days before her senior prom, Gracie was hit with seizures. She was airlifted to TX Children's in Houston, where testing began. A mass was found on her brain and a biopsy scheduled. Her prom was brought to her in the best way they could manage by having her room decorated and dress, makeup, hair done. Gracie was named Prom Queen, fitting for such a sweet beauty. The devastating results of Gracie's biopsy were delivered to her parents in a conference call from Gracie's oncologist this weekend. They had to break this heartbreaking news to Gracie and her younger twin siblings. She received the news as she has lived her life, like a true champ, ready to fight like the warrior she is. Her dad reminded her that she has NO expiration stamp on her anywhere and that they won't claim this. Gracie's response to her diagnosis? "I can't believe this. I don't even feel sick! I'm ready to do what it takes!" Despite the grim prognosis, they are not giving up. Heather stated, "Believe me, we have faith, but we do believe in modern medicine also. And we've decided that we will do whatever it takes." Gracie has been dubbed Wonder Woman for her fighting spirit.
