Greta's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Greta Rose is some dog. Not only does she mean the world to her owner Lori Cotton, she provides love, joy and therapy to those around her. Greta is a Bernese Mountain Dog and is a member of the Canine Corps at Boulder Community Health. She spends every Tuesday morning as a volunteer visiting patients and staff in the Intensive Care Unit and other areas of the hospital. She also is a volunteer with the Boulder County Comfort Dogs providing pet therapy during crisis situations. One of her favorite gigs is providing pet therapy to University of Colorado Students during exams. When she isn't volunteering she will often be seen greeting customers at her mamas gig at Arhaus Furniture and playing in her yard on West Pearl. Yeah, she's a really good girl.

On Monday March 21 Greta out of the blue suffered a FCE stroke. The stroke occurred in her lower neck which has affected her ability to use all four of her legs. On that day she had an ultrasound, MRI, X-Rays and a Spinal Tap. She spent 24 hours in emergency care until she was able to come home. The good news is that she has a good chance for substantial recovery with a lot of care and rehab. The vet bills have been astronomical and her medical insurance only covered a fraction of the bill and there is alot yet to come with her daily rehabilitation needs. At this point Lori has to carry Greta everywhere and at 80 lbs, this is quite a task.

Greta is only 4 years old and has a lot of life yet to live and a ton of love yet to give. Her prognosis is good and the money donated will help pay for some of the emergency care she received and will help pay for the months of rehabilitation ahead of her. FCE is not uncommon, but the fact that it affected all of her limbs makes it a very serious and arduous situation. Greta will require daily home visits for rehabilitation, acupuncture, laser therapy and hyrdrotherapy. This need will go on for months. The awesome news is that with this care she can be back to her old tricks some day but it's an uphill climb and she has a long road ahead of her.

Her mother lives alone and needs all the help she can get to help her girl back to her old self. There are no words to express the love Lori has for her dog and to have something happen like this so suddenly has been a nightmare. It's humbling to ask for help, but then again Greta has been a source of love and therapy to so many in need. She deserves the opportunity to thrive again and recover from this condition. Once this Therapy Dog gets back to feeling like her old self and has her mobility back it is the goal to get her back in her happiest place volunteering at the hospital.

Any contribution will be appreciated more than you can possibly know. Please consider helping Greta run, leap, chase squirrels and thrive again.
