Greg’s liver donation

Donation protected
John (pictured on right) has Primary Biliary Cholangitis, a progressive autoimmune liver disease. Without a transplant, the condition could be fatal.  With a wife and two small children (ages 7 and 4), a new liver was needed as soon as possible.

John’s wife, Nancy, is a friend and former co-worker of Mikayla’s.  Greg (pictures on left) has volunteered to be his living liver donor. Approximately 60% of Greg’s liver will be transplanted to John, and both men will regenerate their liver to near normal size within several months to a year.

John’s insurance will cover the medical costs of Greg’s donor surgery, short term disability is taking care of Greg’s salary while he’s away, and John has offered to cover our travel expenses.  However, we feel this family has enough to manage without additional financial responsibility and humbly ask our friends and family to consider donating a few dollars to our travel expenses.  The surgery will take place in Denver, as they are the facility with the most experience. Greg will be there for about a month, and away from work for about 2 months. Mikayla will go to Colorado for the week of the surgery, then returns home to care for our children.

The $1000 is the cost of Greg’s flights, Mikayla’s flights, a rental car for the week of the surgery, and to cover Mikayla’s meals while Greg is in the hospital.

Donations over the $1000 threshold will be go to a Living Donor foundation or PBC research (whichever John would prefer).

Thank you very much for considering a donation to help us as we try to help John and his family.
