Greg and Daisy

Donation protected
We met Greg and Daisy at the NKLA Super Adoption on Sunday November 10th, 2013. The day before Veteran's Day. Coincidentally, we found out on Veteran's Day that Greg IS a Veteran. And like so many other veterans, he has fallen on hard times. He has had one shining light in his life in the last year and a half: Daisy. Daisy was a stray who wandered into Greg's life. He knew he was not in a spot to take care of an animal; he was having trouble just supporting himself after losing his job at the VA in Westwood 4 years ago. But no one else was stepping up for her, and he couldn't bear it. And they were clearly meant to meet each other and help each other through some tough times.
Greg has been renting a room with what little income he has and Daisy has had to stay in a small dog run because she is not allowed to come into the home. It's not ideal, but she is safe and she is loved. But he is losing his place to stay as the homeowners don't want her there, and facing the possibility of losing Daisy. He was prepared to live in his car with her, but Daisy is a nervous girl and will be a wreck if he tries to live with her in the car.

On Sunday the 10th, in an act of desperation, Greg set out with Daisy to see if anyone at the NKLA super adoption could help him find a loving home for her, as he knew she wouldn't last a week in the LA Shelter system. In his own words "I didn't know enough about the process and it was somewhat silly for me to show up and think I could find her a home in a few hours over one day, plus, there were hundreds of other deserving dogs in need looking for homes as well." And while he didn't walk away from that event with a place for Daisy to go, he did walk away with a lot of people knowing his story and trying to help him. He went on to say "An amazing amount of good has shown up as a result of me taking her there:but what I'm figuring out is that Daisy will will be scared to death and be a mess if she doesn't end up in the right home, so now instead of trying to take the easy way out, I'm going to do all I can to keep her with me and sort out my living situation."

Greg has to be out of his current place in 5 days. He has some offers to help him locate a place where they both can stay but the rent will be a little bit higher. Daisy is also an advanced age (he was told 10, but she is probably older) and needs to be checked out by a vet. She'll need some decent food, a collar, a leash, an ID tag (maybe even a microchip?), a bed...and Greg could use a few things himself. We're really hoping we can help this Veteran and his dog stay together....he was truly starting to have a breakdown at the thought of separating from her, and she really seems to need him as well.

Oh, and by the way, did we mention that through all of this Greg is putting himself through school, trying to obtain his Master's Degree in English so he can teach? He has a plan, and hopefully with a little help, he and Daisy can be living a much more comfortable life in the not-too-distant future.

Anything collected here will be put towards helping Greg and Daisy find better accommodations, medical care and supplies for Daisy and basic necessities for both of them.
