Greg Beguhl's medical fund

Greg and Jodi Beguhl are close friends whom we love very much.  In February, Greg had not been feeling well and began to notice unusual swelling in his feet and lower legs.  They scheduled a few appointments with his regular MD without receiving any solid answers. It wasn't until a few months later that they finally decided  to take further action figuring this out. In the end of April Greg was admitted into the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. They stayed  for a few days having a number of different tests performed and his condition was worsening and they despirately needed answers. After a number of tests, Greg was diagnosed with Amyloidosis (AL). This is a rare disease that occurs when a substance called amyloid builds up in your organs. Amyloid is an abnormal protein that is produced in your bone marrow and can be deposited in any tissue or organ. Amyloidosis can affect different organs in different people, Greg's case is affecting his kidneys and digestive system. (Mayo Clinic). There is no cure for Amyloidosis, but there are treatments that can help manage the disease. One of the treatments commonly used is chemotherapy.

Beginning in early May Greg began having weekly chemotherapy treatments to suppress the amyloids in his blood. He was to continue these treatments into Autumn and conclude his chemotherapy with a stem cell transplant in mid-September.  Unfortunately, about a month ago the chemotherapy quit working and Greg's health deterioated very quickly and he was admitted into Mercy Hospital. After a very frightening week, they determined they only had one other chemotherapy to  try or the outlook was not good for Greg. His journey has been very difficult but those who know Greg know he loves his family with all of his heart and is fighting with everything he has. He is now showing positive signs that they chemo is working and he is regaining some strength. He will have a very long and hard journey, but with the love and grace of our good Lord he will be able to have the stem cell transplant he deserately needs later this fall.  If he continues to recover, the hope is he can go home in a week or two. If he does not regain his strength, he may need to go to a rehab center until he is strong enough to go home. He is now in his 4th week at Mercy Hospital!

Jodi works for the school district and has been off for the summer which has been very helpful for her to care for Greg. She  is hoping to return to work this fall, but will also need to continue to care and support Greg during his recovery. I am asking for their friends and family to donate what they can to help them keep up with their bills and the mounting expenses they are incurring.  The only concern Jodi should have is to love, care for, and encourage Greg with his recovery.   Please pray for Greg's recovery and the strength his family will need as well.
