Great River School is a public Montessori school in St. Paul, MN. Our mission is to prepare students for their unique roles as responsible and engaged citizens of the world. A group of 16 of our 5th and 6th grade students has chosen to participate in the Montessori Model United Nations conference in New York City held February 21-24, 2018. They are dedicated to using this experience to learn skills that will help them to create positive change in the world.
This experience offers our young students a unique opportunity to meet children from other countries, to look at world issues from the perspective of their countries, and to find solutions to the many challenges they will inherit. Through this program, students gain stronger research, public speaking, negotiating, and formal writing skills and apply their skills to solve complex problems. The end goal is for them to feel capable.
Great River students will represent Cameroon and Australia at the MMUN conference. Students will grapple with a variety of issues including preparing for natural disasters, funding peacekeeping missions, and securing the rights of indigenous peoples around the world. On the final day, they will present and vote on their resolutions in the actual UN General Assembly building!
However, this incredible experience is costly.
Costs per participant:
Conference fee and lodging:
Due: 12/15/17
$529 x 21 participants (16 students and 5 chaperones):
Total conference fees: $11,109
Airfare: $450 round trip per person
x 21 participants
Total airfare estimate: $9,450
Transportation, food, and other costs for 21 participants:
Estimated total: $4,000
Grand total: $24,559 Our goal is to raise $25,000
We know that there are many worthy causes that need support. By supporting MMUN program at Great River School, you are making an investment in empowering children to work with each other to find solutions to complex, real-world problems. Any amount you can give is much appreciated.
The Great River MMUN team is so grateful for your support. Thank you!
