We are devastated by the recent tragedy which struck the Hanlin and Gonzales families.
Our beloved grandson, Grant (we call him G2) is the son of Grant Hanlin and Alicia Gonzales. G2 had flulike symptoms and went to the emergency room at Munson Hospital in Traverse City on May 26th where a battery of tests were performed but the results were inconclusive. He was then airlifted to Helen Devos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids on May 27th and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. We were shocked when the doctors determined that G2, who is only 15 months old, had significant blood clots in the deep vessels of his brain. The pressure in his brain was very high, causing seizures and strokes, so the Neurosurgery team placed a drain through his skull into the brain to release the pressure. He was put on blood thinning medication in the hope of breaking up the clots and he remains on a ventilator. Currently, the doctors are using medications to keep him in a coma to allow his brain to rest and give the blood thinners time to take effect. G2 is being monitored 24/7 by a team of doctors but sadly he is still in critical condition and the prognosis is grim.
Through prayer and by the grace of God, our grandson can survive this heartbreaking ordeal but his fate is unknown. It is inconceivable that only weeks ago G2 was a happy, healthy toddler and now he is fighting for his life. We ask that you please keep G2 in your prayers and we are truly grateful for any donations to assist in the mounting cost of his medical bills.
