This summer we were told we had to leave our Grangetown home.

We have finally found a new space but we need your help to raise £20,000 to make our plan of relaunching a cafe, food shop and community space happen! Be part of our incredible community to  help make Wild Thing bigger and better than before and help to make this accessible, sustainable and ethical food business come to life!

THE FULL STORY
In February 2019 I opened our beautiful cafe in Grangetown with the aim to make good food accessible for all. It was a big project transforming a disused tanning studio into a cafe for the community. But all the money, work and tears felt so worth it that day when we opened up to the public.

Skip to March 2020-  we had been trading for a year and just won best new business award when the cafe, along with all business in the UK was forced to close due to lockdown. During that time,  we launched an emergency food project and cooked 11,000 free meals for the community. We paid our rent for months whilst receiving no revenue and effectively operated as a charity. . Staff volunteered their time and energy to cook beautiful nourishing meals for those who needed access to food.

Finally we were able to reopen our doors and relaunch takeaways. On our second day of trading we were told that the landlord had an offer he couldn’t refuse and that the property was for sale. We were told it may take a few months but that we could leave immediately. Shocked and very upset by this news we decided to leave immediately.

A few tough months later , we luckily have been able to operate from our Cathays community centre spot , However, it's been hard. The tiny space only allows for 4 tables and our core customer base was dominantly from the university which has been closed. Despite all of this, our team have managed to continually expand and adapt to survive. The resilience shown by the whole team has been incredible.

We have finally found a beautiful new space in the heart of Grangetown. This means we can be back in our cafe’s hometown with the community that are so supportive. And this time it's going to be bigger & better!

The space is so exciting because it is SO BIG and has so much potential for all the incredible exciting plans we have for the community.

However, in order to make this happen we need to raise funds. We are asking the incredible people of Cardiff to support us make this come true.

OUR PLANS FOR THE NEW SPACE

~A café & evening dining where everything is pay what you can to make good food accessible for all. As always we will use local independent growers and businesses, with our focus remaining on sustainability.
~Free or pay what you can community dinners creating a space for all to come together to eat delicious and nourishing food.
~A food shop  which sells products from local growers and producers.
~Workshops and classes on food, cooking & nutrition.
~  A space for all which can be hireable for different events, classes and workshops.

We operate on a non profit basis. Our sole purpose is to make good food accessible for all. We are passionate about reimagining the food industry which is inclusive for all whilst creating work places that are fair for all. We believe in good wages for hospitality staff which is why all staff are paid a living wage.

In order to make our plans come to life we need to raise £20,000

This money will allow us to complete a fit out and make purchases for the new space. We will be using a local design  & manufacturing agency to bring our vision to life. As always we believe in supporting local makers, producers & suppliers. We are so excited to be working with an incredible team at Vamp Industries, to create a beautiful space for all which is going to be much much better than anything you have seen from Wild Thing before! We care about supporting local, indies and sustainable producers which is exactly how we will be fitting out the space.

We are so grateful for any donation, especially during this extremely tough year!

Lots of local indie businesses have very kindly donated their products or services as "rewards." We have a limited amount of these available. Your donation can be without a reward or with. Please specify in the comments.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.
