Grackle and Grackle Workshops

Grackle and Grackle changes the lives of its students, and I am the person around most -- I am the one who gets to hear from them what this means.

One woman told me that she savors the weekly emails her instructor sends. She doesn't open them right away, because she loves knowing its there for her like a wrapped gift reminding her she's part of a community of people who want to think and talk about literature and make their own. She said this class helps pull her through especially dull weeks at work, reminding her there's a magical moment waiting. 

I have one student who makes a 120 mile round-trip to come to classes and has done through severe medical trials, for the past 4 years.  

And this morning I got this email: "If it hadn't been for Grackle & Grackle I would not be the writer I am today. I often told Raj (half jest, mostly truth) that Grackle & Grackle has been the Gertrude Stein of my writing life."

I am proud that one of the things we are known for is offering substantially discounted rates for our workshops. Every class we teach has at least two or three people who paid between 20 and 50 percent less than the workshop price. Usually there is one person in the class on full economic scholarship.

Still, I pay the teaching artists well for sharing their gifts and insights with the rest of us. But getting both things done, while making the business sustainable, is taxing. 

I would like to raise money for two things:

1) To build up the scholarship fund so that I can continue funding students, artists, seniors, or anybody else who can't afford classes without a boost. 

2) To pay for a new split level ac, since the first one is so loud that people sometimes have trouble hearing during classes.

Your donation will not be tax-deductible, I'm sorry. This year I am looking into how/whether to become a nonprofit. But thank you for considering.
