Gonzalez Kidney Transplant
Alonso Gonzalez, my husband, my best friend .. my everything. Alonso is going to be 38 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes since the age of 17. Alonso is a wonderful father to his son Daniel who is 15 and an amazing stepfather to my son Michael who is 13. Those of you who know Alonso knows that he is a beautiful person with a beautiful spirit inside and out, he would do whatever he could to help his family and friends.
In November 2012, Alonso lost job because he wasn't physically able to perform his duties at work. He has since been on Disability SSI which isn't much to support a family of 4. I do have a job and they are very understanding of the seriousness of my husband's health. We have made it work for our family.
Diabetes took a major toll on Alonos's kidney and now he is in renal failure, End Stage Renal Failure Kidney Disease. Meaning: Alonso is in need of a kidney transplant... NOW.
We have been working with a Kidney Transplant Team at the University of Chicago, the team helped us understand the process and what needs to happen going forward.
With the blessing and prayers for a solution of health and happiness with years of hope, we are blessed and have a donor. Another beautiful person who is a blood and tissue type MATCH!! ! We are in the process of setting up surgery for both Alonso and his beautiful donor.
In the events of surgery, I will be taking time off work under the Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA). FMLA is unpaid. The first 90 days are very, very crucial and Alonso will need care, transport to and from the hospital. We are 51 miles from the hospital, an hour and 25 minutes with little traffic. The first couple of weeks, Alonso will need to go to the hospital 2 times a week for follow ups.
We are asking for donations so that I can take this time off work and care for my husband, Alonso. We are not asking to get rich or anything of the sort. Just to help with the basic necessities of living for the next few months while I am home with no pay.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!! Along the process, we will try to keep everyone informed of the steps that are next and when the surgery is.
